Bespoke holistic treatments just for you

Welcome to Tracey Smith Reflexology in Westminister & East Dulwich;

Complementary Therapies for health, relaxation and renewal

Welcome to

Tracey Smith Reflexology

My name is Tracey Smith and I am a fully qualified and insured Reflexologist based in East Dulwich on Mondays and in Westminster on alternate Wednesdays.

I am both a practitioner and the Head of Reflexology support and

Research for the Association of Reflexologists where I am employed three days per week. Because I am passionate about reflexology I split my time between providing treatments to clients and working at the Association of

Reflexologists. This is the best of both worlds - I love helping clients

directly and my work at the Association of Reflexologists keeps me up to date with the latest knowledge.

I am a Fellow member of the Association of Reflexologists (AoR) and have been a member since qualifying as a reflexologist back in 1997. To visit the AoR's website just click here.

I have run a successful holistic practice in central London for many years.

I was a scientist for eighteen years before becoming a Reflexologist. I worked on many research projects in several teaching hospitals across London on various projects in the fields of cancer, immunology, genetics and infertility.

I have worked in the past in a voluntary capacity as a Reflexologist at the Haven Trust, a breast cancer support charity in Fulham.

About Reflexology

Balance

The World Health Organisation defines health as ‘physical, mental and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity'. As individuals we should have high levels of well-being, we should feel relaxed, full of energy, vibrant, and happy yet so often we do not. Feeling good about yourself is wrapped up in so many aspects of our lives and when we do not feel good our lives are harder and more unhappy.

Reflexology can help with your well-being, it can help you relax and sleep better which will, in turn, make you feel better.

Improved well-being is what we all want and reflexology might just help!

The theory of Reflexology is that it is a non-invasive method of stimulating reflexology points in the feet (also hands, face and ears) through the medium of touch. A a reflexologist I will treat the feet in a specific pattern that theoretically reflects the positions of the organs in the body. Sensitivities in the feet will lead me to reflexology imbalances which can then be released.

For an interactive view of how reflexology points reflect the body click on the icon below for the Association of Reflexologist's interactive foot map.

All areas of the feet are included so the experience is holistic – through the feet the body is treated as a whole not as a selection of symptoms.

What does a treatment entail?

Before your first treatment, I will ask you a few questions about your medical history, about your present and past health and your lifestyle. This will cover aspects of physical, mental and emotional health and will take approximately 10 minutes. This will now be by phone the day before your appointment. A risk assessment regarding Covid-19 will also be carried out at the same time. This is for the protection of all.

I will wipe your feet with a moist wipe and then apply some lotion to aid the movement of my hands over your feet. This is then followed by approximately a fifty-minute treatment.

It should be a relaxing and enjoyable experience. However, a fleeting feeling of tenderness may be felt which will indicate to reflexology imbalances the release of these imbalances loosens tensions and may aid the free flow of energy in the body restoring its natural balance.

Any subsequent treatments will have a shorter questionnaire just to see how you have been since the last treatment.

Reflexology should not be used as an alternative to seeing your Doctor or taking medical advice. It is a complementary therapy and can be used alongside other medical treatments.

How can Reflexology help?

Try something new, because only you can improve your well being but Reflexology may just give you a helping hand!

Reflexology works on an individual level, most people will feel relaxed and have increased well being after a treatment. Some clients see large changes in their circumstances but this is very much personal. The only way to see if reflexology will work for you is to try it.

Try reflexology for size - or you'll never know if it fits!

Other Treatments

Indian Head Massage

This is a shoulder, neck and scalp massage. It is carried out through clothing with no oils, it also includes acupressure points on the face. A treatment needs a 30 minute appointment.

The original name for this is CHAMPISSAGE, which is where we derive our word SHAMPOO. In India it is part of a hair cut or dressing.

Reiki

This is a healing treatment with low levels of touch, again through clothes. It works by utilising a healing power called the Universal healing energy. It is a very gentle way of removing stress and re-balancing the body’s systems.

It is a Japanese therapy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can have Reflexology?

The simple answer is anyone; men, women, babies and children may benefit.

However, anyone with ongoing deep vein thrombosis or any form of blood clot could not be treated until their medication to control the clotting was properly balanced.

I am well so how can it help me?

Reflexology is believed to be a preventative form of therapy, helping you to retain your feeling of wellness.

It is hypothesised that approximately 70% of all illnesses are linked to stress so removal of some of the stresses in life can be beneficial to good health.

What sort of problems might it help?

Reflexology can only claim to treat for stress and relaxation however many people find that how they cope with their illness or problem changes when receiving reflexology.

It is particularly helpful with the ‘sort of feeling under the weather’ issues with lots of minor symptoms not big enough to take to the Doctor, for example minor backache plus headache plus not sleeping with poor concentration.

Reflexology is believed to re-balance the systems of the body so they work in harmony with each other. It works on an individual basis, with everyone reacting differently to the treatment.

Does it hurt?

Reflexology treatments may be firm or light. I am from the firm school of treatment and my treatments may be uncomfortable at times. The Reflexology imbalances may be present for several reasons and after a release of the energy block the ‘imbalance’ may be helped by the healing energy being able to flow freely. This release may be uncomfortable during the application of pressure however this is under the clients control and the treatment can be lightened if it is too uncomfortable. Many of my clients say it’s a ‘feeling of good ache, like its doing some good’

I have sub-fertility issues and have heard that Reflexology might just help – is this the case?

While there is no scientific evidence to support this, there is a growing band of women who believe they now have children due to having had Reflexology. Often these women have tried for years to become pregnant and may have even tried other types of fertility treatment without success. Then they try Reflexology, and after a course of treatment the body begins to work harmoniously. Stress is heavily involved in fertility problems so it might be the reduction in stress brought about by the reflexology that allows for a pregnancy to result but this is as yet unproven.

Again you will never know if it works for you unless you book an appointment and try reflexology for yourself!

Can reflexology help chronic illnesses?

Reflexology does not claim to cure but it can be used as a support mechanism for many illnesses both acute and chronic. Again the only way you will know how it will affect you in your particular situation will be to try it.

Reflexology can be surprising with its effects!

Reflexology should not be used as an alternative to seeing your Doctor or taking medical advice. It is a complementary therapy and can be used alongside other medical treatments.
